Have you thought about gifts to buy family, friends, and loved ones for the holiday season? Well, I have a suggestion. Consider buying a book. It stimulates the mind instead of expanding the waistline. There's also truly one for each and every person. The place to purchase these delectable literary confections is at one the two CJUSD book fairs at the Redlands Barnes & Noble book store during the fall 2010 season. By buying any gift item at the store, you will also support the schools since a percentage of the proceeds will be used for library book purchases. The joint Colton High/Colton Middle event will occur on Saturday October 23, 2010 from 9am-11pm. The fundraiser for Terrace Hills Middle will happen on Wednesday December 8, 2010. Books may also be purchased online for up to five days after the event. The internet access information is available at each of the school libraries.

Hispanic Heritage Month is fast approaching! The CHS library will host several activities to commemorate this special time. Pay attention to the school announcements. Gary Soto's novels will be the featured books of the month. Look at the Book Club section for more information.
Image from http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_KBxxxvM1_oo/Sq6K6diMh3I/AAAAAAAAAC0/SSjcdjH7LXI/s320/Hispanic.jpg The Saturday May 1 Book Fair was a smashing success!! Several student organizations from choir, pep squad, National Honors Society, drama club, and guitar club participation. AP club members even wrapped gifts for Mother's Day. For those who couldn't attend, there is still an opportunity to support Colton School Libraries. Visit the Barnes & Noble Book Fair site at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/bookfairs/ and enter the Bookfair ID #10192571 by Friday May 7, 2010. As a 4:30 PM on Saturday May 1, CJUSD supporters bought over $4000 of merchandise!! I just want to thank all the teachers and students who participated.
Image from http://www.barnesandnoble.com/bookfairs/ As you are way aware, money for school libraries is extremely tight. One way to raise money is through a fund raiser. Fortunately, Barnes & Noble has been organizing book fairs for quite some time. On Saturday May 1, 2010, the outlet in Redlands, CA will host a joint book fair for Colton High, Colton Middle, and Terrace Hills Middle. Flyers will be distribued at each of the school sites a week prior to the event. Information will also be available on school bulletins and newspaper articles. A certain percentage of the proceeds will used to buy new materials for each of the school libraries. I encourage all parents, students, and members of the Colton community to participate.
